This weekend is full of classics, from a treasured Balboa Park event to a classic rock band. Plus an underground music star returns to San Diego.
Fleetwood Mac
Music
Rock band Fleetwood Mac celebrates its 50th anniversary with a reunion concert.
The band brings back Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie to sing timeless hits like “Gypsy,” “Rhiannon” and “Landslide.”
Of course, Fleetwood Mac has always been surrounded by drama, and this time around, Lindsey Buckingham will not be on the tour. Instead, he’ll be replaced by Neil Finn of Crowded House and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell.
Details: 8 p.m. Saturday. Viejas Arena, 5500 Canyon Crest Drive, SDSU. $69.50 to $299.50; find tickets to Fleetwood Mac
Kurt Vile and the Violators
Music
If you’re more interested in stars from the current music scene, make sure to catch Kurt Vile.
Vile is a young Pennsylvania musician whose songs have a fuzzed-out sound blended with creative songwriting and a self-reflective point of view. Compare him to Tom Petty, Sonic Youth and Pavement.
Vile’s been performing with like-minded Australian musician Courtney Barnett lately, but for his San Diego concert, he’ll be playing with his backing band The Violators.
Details: 8 p.m. Sunday. The Observatory, 2891 University Ave., North Park. $33; find tickets to Kurt Vile.
