In a mandated report to Congress last fall, 13 federal agencies set off an alarm about the immediate threat climate change poses to the United States and the world.
Building on that report, the U.S. Intelligence Community in January identified climate change as a significant threat to national security. President Trump questioned the accuracy of that report and instead moved to convene a “red team” led by a noted climate change skeptic to give him talking points to challenge established climate science.
At part of the KPBS Climate Change Desk, David Victor, professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego, joins Midday Edition to discuss how climate change poses a national security threat to the United States.
