Wikileaks has been the subject of widespread condemnation from members of both political parties. But the organization that has released tens of thousands of pages of classified documents also has its share of supporters. This week, Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame called Wikileaks founder Julian Assange a "hero," and last week, Ron Paul, the contrarian Republican Congressman from Texas, expressed his support of Wikileaks in an interview with Fox Business, saying :

Meantime, FAIR (Fairness in Accuracy and Reporting) reports that a petition to support Wikileaks is gathering steam. It reads in part :

Among those who've signed the petition to date are Daniel Ellsberg (Pentagon Papers), Glenn Greenwald (Salon), John Nichols (The Nation), Viggo Mortensen (actor), Jeff Cohen (Park Center for Independent Media), Robin Andersen (Fordham University), Robert Naiman (Just Foreign Policy), Dan Gillmor (Knight Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship), Kate Murphy (The Nation), Antonia Zerbisias (Toronto Star), and Mark Crispin Miller (NYU).
