Two hospital bonds were on the ballot in San Diego County. And while the one for North County's Tri-City Hospital went down to defeat, East County's Grossmont Hospital bond passed with flying colors. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
At election central in Golden Hall, supporters of the $247 million Grossmont Hospital bond celebrated early.
Prop G had a commanding lead from the word go. Grossmont CEO Michelle Tarbet says the results are incredibly gratifying.
TABET: "It really shows us how incredibly supportive the community has been of Grossmont Hospital, and everything that is so important to the healthcare of the residents of East County."
The bond will fund some major improvements of Grossmont Hospital. It will allow the facility to enhance its emergency room. And the bond will pay for five new operating rooms, and a number of other upgrades.
Prop G's passage means East County residents will see a slight hike in their property taxes.
