Issa Blasts Justice Dept. for Domestic Spying in Abuse of Patriot Act
Calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' head are growing louder in Washington. At a hearing Tuesday morning, San Diego Republican Congressman Darrell Issa had harsh words for the entire Justice Department. Benjamin Shaw reports from Capitol Hill.
In a newly-released audit, the Justice Department's own watchdog found FBI officials overstepped their authority in gathering telephone, e-mail and financial records of Americans from 2003 to 2005. Issa says the Department misused provisions in the Patriot Act and abused the trust of Congress.
Issa : If you lose some of these tools, America may be less safe, but the Constitution will be more secure, and it will be because of your failure to deal with this in a serious fashion.
Issa has not gone as far as some lawmakers who are calling for Attorney General Gonzales to resign.
