Chula Vistans will get their first chance Tuesday night to run with the idea of a new NFL stadium in their city. The city council will receive an initial report on two viable sites. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.
Mayor Cheryl Cox says once the council hears the report, the next step is to see how the two sites would affect the local community.
She says one of the big questions is how the stadium would be financed.
Cox : I can’t support the gift of publicly owned land for a privately owned building but there is certainly terms that can be worked out. We want to make sure that our public has a lot more information before we go to a public vote.
Cox says if the Chargers decide they are interested in one of the two sites in Chula Vista, at least two more studies would have to be done before a public vote in 2008.
Tonight's meeting will be a chance to hear the pros and cons of the two sites, kick around ideas and test reactions from the public and elected officials.
The Chargers have not ruled out stadium sites in Oceanside or San Diego.
