Public Meeting Planned to Discuss Jet Crash

University City Neighborhood residents will get a chance tonight to ask questions and get information about this week's crash of a military fighter jet in San Diego. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has more.

San Diego City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner will host a community forum at 6 p.m. It' will be held in the University City High School Auditorium. In a statement, Lightner says her thoughts are with the man whose entire family was killed when the F-A 18 D Hornet crashed into their home. But she says she's also thinking of the residents whose sense of security and safety has been shaken by the accident.

The meeting will also be attended by several other officials, including San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, as well as representatives from the military and police and fire departments. The military investigation into the crash is ongoing and preliminary findings indicate double engine failure is rare in this aircraft.
