UC San Diego is trying to respond to the need for data scientists in a multitude of industries by training that future workforce at a new institute announced Thursday.

The Halicioğlu Data Science Institute is funded by a record $75 million gift from computer science alumnus Taner Halicioğlu who was one of Facebook's first software engineers.

By 2020 the number of data science and analytics job listings will increase by over 700 percent, according to a report released in May 2017.
