Charity Helps Military Kids Gear Up For New School Year

Struggling military families are receiving help from Operation Homefront. The non-profit organization is holding it’s annual “Back to School Brigade” this weekend.

Backpacks, pencils, binders and other supplies will be given to 1,000 children of military families.

Southern California chapter president Jay Anderson said the kids get to choose the supplies they want, and that’s especially important for military children.

Anderson said: “He or she doesn’t get to choose where they live because the family is ordered from place to place. They don’t get to choose when Mom or Dad is going to be deployed overseas. So, some of the routine things become extraordinary for them.”

The supplies will be distributed at the Kearny Mesa National Guard Armory, 7401 Mesa College Drive, on Saturday, and at Camp Pendleton on Sunday.
