3/5 Returns Home to Camp Pendleton

Family and friends will welcome home the Darkhorse Battalion tonight to Camp Pendleton. According to KPBS reporter Alison St John, the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment suffered major casualties while fighting in Afghanistan, virtually more than any other in Operation Enduring Freedom. More than 30 Marines from the Darkhorse Battalion lost their lives within the first three months of their deployment to Helmand Province.

The first 250 troops from the group will make their way back to Pendleton tonight, where they will be embraced with a homecoming ceremony.
