It's June 14, and that means it's Flag Day - a national observance (though not a federal holiday) that commemorates the day our nation adopted the Stars and Stripes as its official flag in 1777. The Grand Ole Flag has gone through many incarnations over the years, and each variation on the flag has its own significance.
Those of us who live in San Diego can celebrate Flag Day by visiting Balboa Park this morning at 10 a.m., where members of San Diego Masonic Lodges will raise the flag at Marston Point. As the San Diego Union-Tribune points out:
