Two U.S. soldiers were killed Monday in two separate attacks in Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense.
Both Sgt. Shawn M. Farrell II, 24, and Pfc. Christian J. Chandler, 20, were assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light) of Fort Drum in New York state.
Farrell died in the Nejrab District of Kapisa province when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. Chandler was killed, also by small arms fire, in the Baraki Barak District of Logar province, Afghanistan.
Farrell was from Accord, New York. He is survived by his wife and parents.
Chandler, of Trenton, Texas, is survived by his mother and stepfather.
