11 San Diego County Cities Elect Mayors This Week

Most local mayor races are being won by incumbents. The San Diego County Registrar of Voters said Wednesday that 100 percent of precincts have now reported votes — but also said there were still 490,000 ballots countywide that need to be counted.

In the North County, Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall has 56.76 percent of votes while challenger Cori Schumacher has 43.06 percent. In Encinitas, Mayor Catherine Bakespear is ahead with 82.88 percent of votes while John Paul Elliot has 16.21 percent.

Escondido Mayor Sam Abed is facing a much closer race. Abed is leading with 50.58 percent of votes while Paul "Mac" McNamara is close behind with 48.98 percent. In Poway, Mayor Steve Vaus has a comfortable 63.3 percent of votes with Brian Edmonston behind him with 18.7 percent.

Incumbent Vista Mayor Judy Ritter has 52.46 percent of votes. Joe Green trails her with 37.92 percent of votes.

In Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas has 70.12 percent of votes with challenger Hector Gastelum capturing 29.88 percent. El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells is also leading by a wide margin with 65.92 percent of votes. Joel Scalzitti is trailing Wells with 25.89 percent of votes.

Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina appears to be headed to victory. Dedina has 66.35 percent of votes while Valerie Acevez has 32.96 percent. La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis ran unopposed and has 97.38 percent of votes.

In National City, Mayor Ron Morrison is termed out after 12 years in office. Council member Alejandra Sotelo Solis is one of four candidates to replace him. She's currently ahead with 43.09 percent of votes.
