Chula Vista City Councilman Steve Padilla is at home "healthy, strong and safe" in isolation after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Padilla went on Twitter Saturday night and said, "Friends and neighbors — I want you to know that I've tested positive for COVID-19."
In a videotaped message, Padilla said, "I'm doing very well, I'm feeling well. This is a scary time, but it's also a time to remember what community really means, and that means coming together and supporting one another."
Padilla thanked loved ones for being supportive as he recovered, and promised to continue to update his status and provide resources for people seeking more information about virus.
As chairman of the California Coastal Commission, Padilla said he recently conducted a commission hearing in Santa Cruz.
He also said he was talking to public health officials to notify those he might have recently come into contact with.
"My No. 1 focus now is for the well-being of others," he said in the video message. "Let's remember to act based on facts and information and let's act with the care for others."
