This special episode of KPBS Midday Edition highlights the most popular episodes from the KPBS podcasts: Cinema Junkie, Incoming, Rad Scientist and My First Day.
Cinema Junkie
The longest-running KPBS podcast, Cinema Junkie, spotlights everything about the movies. Beth Accomando, KPBS arts reporter and podcast host, offers film reviews, in-depth interviews with directors, writers, and actors, along with her take on Hollywood’s controversial issues and of course, a focus on her favorite genres, Hong Kong action, Star Wars and Horror.
Incoming
There is no better place than San Diego to find stories about military life. With the large number of veterans and active-duty personnel living in the region, there is a wealth of experience and truth to tap into. That is just what the KPBS Podcast, Incoming, does. Hosted by Justin Hudnall, executive director of So Say We All, a San Diego-based literary arts and education non-profit, Incoming's mission is to tell true stories from the lives of America's military — told in their own words, straight from their own mouths.
Rad Scientist
There is a lot of science going on in San Diego, one of the major research hubs in the country. But you do not always hear about that research because, well, scientists are not always very good about talking to non-scientists about their work. That is where the KPBS podcast Rad Scientist comes in. Host Margot Wohl talks to the people behind the research and explores the passions that drive their work. Wohl is a scientist herself. She is working towards her Ph.D. in neuroscience at UC San Diego.
My First Day
What do you remember about your first day in school, on the job or in a new city? Those experiences are usually etched into our memories and form the basis of so much that comes after. The KPBS podcast My First Day, hosted by Andrew Bracken, is a series that explores these important days through people who came to San Diego from elsewhere, and now call it home.
