US Soldier Killed In Afghan Insider Attack ID'ed

The Pentagon has identified the American soldier killed Thursday in an insider attack. Army Staff Sgt. Thomas A. Baysore, Jr., 31, lost his life when a man wearing an wearing a Afghan National Security uniform shot him to death.

The Department of Defense reports Baysore was assigned to 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

According to Baysore's LinkedIn page, he grew up in Milton, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Milton Area Senior High School in 2000. Baysore was Assistant Station Commander at the U.S. Army Recruiting Center in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania from 2006 until 2009. He later worked as an Infantry Squad Leader at Fort Campbell.

The attack that killed Baysore was the second instance of deadly green-on-blue violence this week. On September 21, Army Special Forces members Staff Sgt. Liam J. Nevins, Staff Sgt. Timothy R. McGill, and Spc. Joshua J. Strickland died when they were shot by an attacker wearing an Afghan National Army uniform.
