Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido is one of nine craft breweries nationwide that helped create Homefront IPA, a new beer debuting Memorial Day.

Proceeds from the sale of the beer will be donated to Operation Homefront, an nonprofit organization that helps military families in need.

The organization of breweries that developed Homefront IPA is called Hops for Heroes. The group's website describes Homefront IPA this way:

Aged on Louisville Slugger maple bats, this IPA does more than just quench your thirst, it improves the lives of our soldiers.

And speaking of baseball bats, earlier this week, several of the San Diego Padres stopped by the Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens at Liberty Station in Point Loma to taste the new brew.

Homefront IPA goes on sale in San Diego County on Memorial Day at the Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido, and the Liberty Station location, too.
